Electronic Device Usage Policy
2024 - 2025 School Year
Phones and electronic devices are a major distraction to students and their learning. Research from the US Surgeon General has found that loneliness and social isolation is as dangerous as smoking 15 cigarettes a day (http://tiny.cc/54ulzz). For this reason, Mott Haven has outlined an electronic use policy to support student learning:

Phones, earbuds, headphones, e-watches must be stored away and not be seen or heard during school hours from 8:00 AM to 11:20 AM & 11:52 AM to 2:20PM.

Phone use during lunch time, 11:20 AM to 11:52 AM, is allowed.
It is the responsibility of each student to put their devices away. Yondr pouches are available for students that need help with device management.

Looking at the time or checking your schedule on your phone is not permitted during school hours. Using your phone in the classroom, bathroom, halls, staircase or anywhere on the campus during banned hours is not allowed.
Using your phone or school device on social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok, or Snapchat is forbidden.
Violators risk their devices being confiscated and kept until the end of the day. The Chancellor supports confiscation where necessary. Additional consequences such as not participating in school activities (trips, etc) or parent meetings may be required for those who repeatedly offend against this policy.
